We visited the gardens at the Hotel Bourgainvillea in Santo Domingo twice.
HOTEL BOURGAINVILLEA

We sat for a while in a little gazebo that had decorative Etcher along the edge of the underside of the roof.
This pergola and its overhanging flowers was one of my favorite parts.

We missed our selfie opportunity with Quicho, but we enjoyed his bare feet. Here is his story

The inside of the hotel and restaurant was delightfully decorated with art and collections of rocks.

Some of the art was sculpted from a tree that once grew on the grounds and died due to a fungus.

'The Costa Rican ox cart is a popular folk image. This one was particularly beautiful

The gardens in the front of the hotel were also well groomed and interesting

And the food was great too. We had the plate of the day, trout.

HOTEL BOURGAINVILLEA
On our first visit we walked and sat and enjoyed the flowers and the fine, cool breeze. We climbed a small tower. Elizabeth caught a glance at many birds, some she had not seen before. Luckily she remembered her binoculars.
We ate there, having the special of the day, a trout dish. The entire meal cost under $35 and it was very fancy. I'll blog it all when I get back home.
On our second visit we were told that the restaurant was primarily for hotel guests. It was full. But they accommodated us in the bar area, and that was perfect.

I listened to a band of three guitars warm up in the lobby for a birthday party.
Great day

They are working with a nearby university to see about protection for particular frogs that are endangered.

ON OUR SECOND VISIT
On the Saturday before Easter, when most things were closed, we went up for another walk in the afternoon. On this one we spent time just sitting on benches and feeling the cool mountain breeze while searching for birds. They are very elusive, but we did manage a very good look at a banded back wren
